Ok so I bought my girlfriend a studion about 2 years ago maybe less not sure but it has always been a bit funny the cd drive keeps making that loading sound like it does when it spits out a disc or sucks it in and the touch bar button for the rom drive flashs so I was wondering if anyone has heard of this and knows what to do.
I have the latest firmware on the laptop all updates but still no luck.

Im sorry if thiss is well documented but I dont know what im looking for here so any advice would be appreciated.

Is it still under Dell warranty?

If not you can replace the ODD yourself, the part itself shouldn't be more than 60-70 dollars. Not the nicest thing to take apart for a slot loaded drive. You pretty much have to remove the palm rest to get to the drive.

Na warranty ran out after 1st year,
So you think its an issue with the drive and not the touch panel?

Well-known problem on the Studio 153x and others with that touch panel. See this post on here on notebookreview or the mega-thread (350 replies across 2.5 years) over at the Dell forums.

Huh? The notebookreview link in my post has a download link for the firmware CD that doesn't need any registration at Dell. I just tried it and that download link is still good.
