One thing has been frustrating me with my new Dell Vostro 1500. It only has VGA out. I need DVI out and support for 1920x1200 resolution.
DVI is much more commonplace now with LCD monitors. Why can't they default with DVI out, since it takes only a simple cheap adapter to convert to VGA, whereas it is expensive to go the other way around.
Am I alone on this?

Maybe they are thinking business laptop don't need DVI?
-
Even home laptops 15.4" or smaller don't include DVI.

I'm really dissappointed that my laptop doesn't have DVI dual-link output.
Dell could've sold me a 3007FWP screen otherwise.
(1920x1200 is supported on the Nvidia Quadro 140M on my machine though...which is good enough for a 24" LCD) -
Your subject says "why not DVI for notebooks?", but some Dell notebooks do have HDMI output (which is easily converted to DVI with a simple cable). Yours does not have it, but that does not mean no notebooks have it. The m1330 (13.3" screen) has HDMI. If you want digital video out, you should check the specs before buying a laptop.
But maybe you can buy a PC card / expresscard (I don't know what slot your laptop has) that has a DVI out.
