I feel like all I do is complain on these boards, but anyone else feel like their HD is really loud when it's quiet in the room? It's so high pitched and I keep thinking it's my speakers hooked up, but I got a USB soundcard to fix that and it definitely is coming from the HD. I'm thinking about calling in cause that loud click that happens bugs me too. Jsut doesn't seem healthy or right.

what kind of computer have you got? the HDD should pretty much be near silent. usually there is a slight humming noise, and the clicking should sound rather mechanically smooth.

high pitch (whistling) noise is usually an indication of faulty hard disk drive.

Check out the link in my Signature, it helped quite a few people to solve their HDD noise issues.

A question not related to the HD noise: dynamic switching is available and I am assuming this is another word for Speedstep, but my computer is running at 1.6 idle versus the 598mhz I remember my 700m running when it was idle. At least I think it was 598, but I just know there is no reason for my processor to be maxed out with just Firefox and AIM open.

It's odd cause System in Control Panel says 798 sometimes.

The speed in the control panel just happens to be the speed at the exact moment it did the reading when you booted into Windows.

    Use cpuz for real-time readings:

I forget what model it is, T5470? It's the one that comes with the 599-649$ Vostro deals.
