    hey folks

i was round a mates earlier and mentioned this, and he had an adapter there hed never used, its the same sort of dongle, with a 7 pin connector ,and the 3 component leads but no other lead like audio etc, so i brang it home to test it out

it works and i can get the picture on my hdtv in the 1900x1080 res, but its all blurry and only in 30 hz , and doesnt look good at all and the writing is hard to read etc

i just wondered if yours was the same or how you sorted it out ?

and how many pins the dell cable had ?? this one is 7 pins, im not sure if its because of the cable, or a setting somewhere or what

my tv can defo run 1080i , but not P , i used to have an xbox 360 and the component cable, and ran that fine in 1080i and it looked and worked great

in the nvid control panel when i connect the tv with this lead, the extra HDTV settings come on to the bottom of the list all ok

just wondered if anyone could shed any light on this and how i can get the 1080i to work properly and look as it should or if its just this lead thats not the proper one and has less pins or something like that,or if its settings on windows, or my tv or what, i could do with finding out rather than waste money on the dell lead ,im hoping its just some setting or something somewhere and i can get this to work proper, then buy the dell lead

    please help !!! lol

    thanks folks

You're shoving 1080p resolution down a 480i pipe (svideo). I'd use the Dell adapter for the clearest resolution.

And I'm trying to figure out what you're stating by posting your 3D Mark score in your sig. Your score is based on 1280x800 (or 1280x868) resolution and not the standard 1280x1024.

do you think thats the prob ? i was hoping it was just th cable and not my tv/nvid settings , as that all seems to be ok,the cable adapter is only some cheap thing that was given free with something or other

does anyone know th amount of pins in the dell one ?

the 3d mark score is in1024x768 in vga through my tv, the scores this gets are all round about the same anyway with a tad overclocking/res mixes

see my 17" laptop screen will do up to 1440x900, but in the moninfo program, it says it can do max 1600x1200 ? any idea why that shows that ?

but i have a 30" philips hdtv, but it only has vga or component, it will only run 1024x768 in vga mode , nothing else, so that is its native vga res

but it runs 480p edtv ,720p,and 1080i hdtv modes through the component, i had my 360 in 1080i no problems, and the wii runs fine too , so i am hoping i can sort my laptop to run in 1080i in it !

has anyone got a windows screen shot of their inspiron running 1080i so i can see the clarity ?

Dell TV OUT has 7 pins plus one, which I assume is s/pdif

Your video card will support most any resolution. Your LCD screen is limited, however. If you hooked it up to a CRT, you should be able to get every resolution the monitor gets.

I say get the Dell cable and try the component inputs. Other people seem to have success.

As soon as I get mine, I can, but the other people here should be able to provide one.

thanks for the replies mate, appriciate your help !!! thats cleared a few things up for me , il get the dell cable and see how that works, this cable does look cheap.and the mate i borrowed it from has never owned laptops and only desktops, and doesnt own a hdtv, so i dont know what he was given it with or what cable it is exactly

i think he may of just got given it with a desktop nvidea card somewhen down the line, hopefully the dell one will sort it, its just frustrating it works but its not clear or the quality it should be !

post some pics when you get yours ,any idea when ? im gonna try n order one through dell uk

Yeah its weird. With the dell adapter on my 1520 the computer recognized the hdtv right away and set it to the right settings.

I would see about getting the dell adapter. It works for me.

The item came with no instructions, can any of you help me out with this problem? my lcd tv has up to 1080i and my graphics card is an NVIDIA 8600.

    Please help

seems like you got a faulty wire. I would call dell and reorder it.

I know this is an old post, but I have been very sad about the fact that the 1520 does not come with a good connection to my new 24" Westinghouse. My question is if anybody can make some sort of comparison between VGA and S-video in this regard.

I've had much better luck going the DVI-to-HDMI route (and these laptops should come with DVI. Works like a charm and nearly all HDTVs have HDMI.

1080i limit is likely due to bandwidth limitations and billcsho, no offence but you really shouldn't state so many things as fact when you are unsure if you are correct.

So this product for sure doesn't display 1080p? I just got this adapter today and i was watching 1080i on my 1080p TV, I'm bummed out now.

How would i achieve 720p? just change the resolution to 1280x720 on my laptop?
