Anyone know why my hard disk available space would change each time I boot up? I've been keeping an eye on it for a few days and it will just anywhere from 37 GB free to 52 GB free...currently says 45 GB free...

    any thoughts??

The other thing that other thread never clarifies is what that winsxs folder is for and why you can't mess w/ it.

sxs stands for side-by-side. Microsoft introduced a way out of DLL hell back in Windows 2k/XP that started out as a kludge to old DLL issues under COM and is now a cleaner method for how it is handled in .NET...but basically, every version of a DLL/EXE is retained (or can be) for backward compatibility, they remain in the registry and applications can continue to reference older versions if necessary (simple explanation of it).

Anyway, needless to say, don't mess w/ that directory. Yes, it's HUGE...it accounts for half of my Vista windows folder (12 gb under Windows, half of that, nearly 6gb, is in the winsxs folder).

Vista is just a space hog when it comes to harddrives.
