    Hi!

I have a 120GB Toshiba MK1234GSX HDD in my notebook. Besides the normal fast "ticking" noise on seeking, I sometimes hear a little louder kind of "click". It's just one "click" and it occurs most times when the computer is only randomly accessing the hdd as in idle or during browsing, not when it's running permanently.

I guess it's normal but wanted to ask if others also have this noise. HD Tune says my hdd's state is fine anf finds no errors. Ihave performance mode set to "performance", where it says it might be a bit louder. May this be the cause?

    Thanks in advance!

    I still don't know if it's normal,

I have a Samsung and it has the same kind of sound.

    Hi,

I'd rather think it's fine when it's the same on yours. I've now defragged my drive and since then, didn't hear the click noise again.
I could imagine it occurs when the reading head has to move over wider distances quickly.
On mine, it's mostly the system restore data which is defragged, so perhaps it happens when system restore points are created/deleted in fragmented areas.

The thing about it is also, youre never so close to the HDD as on a notebook computer. There your hear every single noise. On a desktop PC, you hardly ever hear anything from the hdd unless it really makes bad noises.
