Wondering if any one can help me as i've spent a huge chunk of the afternoon trying to get this to work.

I have a XPS M1530 With hdmi when i connect it directly to my plasma i get picture and sound. But to get DTS or 5.1 i need to send it to the my home cinema amp ( sony STR K880).

So i've connected the laptop Via HDMI to the Amp then another lead in the out socket from the amp to the plasma.I get a picture but i get no sound at all and i really can't see why not?

I'm using VLC to stream the HI-Def content.

I've tried everything on the amp but can't see why this isn't working i really need some help as i'm pulling my hair out here!

    Thanks.

You need to change the default audio from the onboard to HDMI. Some do this by disabling the onboard sound.

By right clicking the sound icon in the lower right corner in taskbar and picking "Sounds/Playback".

I right click the sound in the taskbar and have the options open> volume control OR adjust audio properties.

    Volume control

Wave, Sw synth, cd player , pc speaker

    Audio properties

    Volume tab
    Sound tab
    Audio tab
    Voice tab
    Hardware tab

I see nothing that gives me this option "Sounds/Playback"

Am i missing something here? I'm running XP pro.

    Thanks.

Oh, your on XP...you must have down graded or something. Try going into the control panel and look for the sound properties. There you should find a list of devices. You should have a few devices listed including your onboard audio (maybe listed as sigmatel) and your digital device (the hdmi). You should be able to set a default there.
