I recently purchased a Studio 17 with Blu Ray and 1920X1200 display. I hooked up the laptop to my 1080p TV and to my surprise the max resolution that I could get it to display was 1360X768. No matter what I did (i.e changine the resolution in the display manager (i.e. changing to 1920X1200), it wouldn't stick. Can this laptop output 1080P? Is the graphics card that came with it a restriction (only choice for this laptop)? Thanks in advance.

did you use the graphic card's own control panel?
i output 1080p with a intel igp... -
Updated drivers might help too if that dosen't even work. I guess I'm glad I skipped the Studio 17 this weekend because I just have so much better luck with Nvidia's drivers (I was right on the fence, and then had a dumb DVD playback issue of all things on my Radeon).

I used the ATI catalyst program...it would let me switch to 1900X1200 @ 60mhz refresh, but would then revert back to 1360X768 @ 58mhz refresh after a few seconds....
Re: drivers...it says that I have the most up to date video card drivers. Is there another source? -
If need be you can force ATi's reference drivers to install (or use 3rd party modded drivers), but that MIGHT cause fan/heat related issues. Might want to at least watch what your temps are before and after. Personally I'm expecting to have to just install real drivers so that games work. Sometimes they have more video modes available too (though it could be some other problem).

Some TV's can accept 1080p from video devices like DVD players and Bluray players, but can actually not accept 1080p from PCs. Yeah, I was surprised when I heard it too, but somehow there IS a difference. I know, because when we were shopping for a new TV, our TV of choice could only accept 1280 x 1024 or something max. from HDMI (although there was a software workaround on the laptop side, but have no idea what it was, don't own an HDMI equipped PC). It even says so in the manual of the TV though.
The fact that you did get it working for a short while (after it switches back) could mean that this is not your problem, but still. -
Thanx to all that helped. Got it figured out. Tried searching for updated Dell drivers for Graphics card, but there weren't any. AMD/ATI doesn't support Mobility Radeon products, therefore no drivers there. Had to update to latest Catalyst software...was a bit quirky at first. Worked fine after a couple of reboots and a few adjustments (mostly due to the HDCP/Cloning issue).
