I haven't gotten an xps yet, but am certainly leaning towards it. I was wondering who on this board has used the HDMI output and connected it to a HDTV. Is the quality top-notch? If you were to get a blu-ray player on the XPS machine, would you be able to hook it up to an HDTV via HDMI and get the same nice picture you could if you had a blu-ray player?

I did connect it to my 42" HDTV one time. However, I don't have bluray. I connected it for purpose of watching avi files on the HDTV. The HDTV is connected as secondary monitor. The quality is detail (I don't rate it sharp or top-notch), but color is a little washed out and dull. The avi file is viewed better (brighter, color is vibrant) when I play it through my phillips DVD player.

    My m1730 spec: T8300, single 8700GT, 2GB Mem.

I don't suggest that this result reflects M1730 picture quality. Perhap, my m1730 spec is low so the output picture is not great. I just give you a simple result in my case.

BTW, I used VLC to play avi file when I connected M1730 to the HDTV. So, take it to the account of picture quality. Maybe, the dull picture is due to VLC rendering quality, not the M1730 issue.

I hook my 1530 up to my 42" fujitsu plasma via HMDI now and again and it looks fine, cant fault it really , also handy that it has the little remote control too :)

ive hooked mine up via hdmi to my 50" pioneer. Looks great using media player classic with the core avc codec installed. The worst thing was downloading a 1080p h.264 film. Die hard 4 was 11GB :S

I used mine to watch NetFlix movies - You know, the instant downloadable kinds. Just hooked the HDMI cable to HDMI3 on my XBR4-40" and set the sound option to HDMI out and away I went.
I was very impressed with the quality of both the audio and video. Now Netflix has a $99 box that does the same thing. Go figure.
