I've been using my 1737 to playback movies and downloaded TV shows to my HDTV via the HDMI socket for ages and its worked wonderfully. Suddenly the other day it stopped working and I no longer get an image on screen or sound.

I've got the latest drivers for my (intel) graphics card and the laptop detects 'something' is plugged in as a second monitor (windows 7 even detects its a Toshiba TV, but still no output on screen) so I assume it it working to some degree.

has anyone any ideas on this? I've tried everything I can think of!

Try Fn+F8. That's the keyboard command to switch to an external monitor.

yup, tried that, tried using the Intel software settings to clone, extend and display on 2nd monitor only, tried mobility center (doesn't detect the TV, however everything else does). Tried uninstalling all intel software and re-installing older versions, then uninstalling and re-installing latest versions.

I've replaced the HDMI cable with a new one, I don't have anything else which uses HDMI :(
