I thought the 1420 had a built in microphone on the top near the webcam. But I can't seem to get it to work. I'm trying to record audio while using microsoft OneNote and I tried recording a video using Dell's video recording software but still no sound.

Anyone know why this might be happening?

I'm assuming all drivers have been installed(and reinstalled just in case), have you tried tinkering around with the Sound/Audio options in Control Panel?

I've tried tinkering with control panel. No luck there. I'll try reinstalling the drivers now as well.

open up the sound panel, go to advanced options, and click "recording" and check the box that says "microphone" see if that helps
