    please help!!!

    a 4 year old inspiron 6000

monitor shows graphics (with pink tint) for a few seconds upon power-on

whenever the computer goes to stand-by and gets activated again, e.g, i close the lid and open the lid again, the monitor shows log in interface for quite a few seconds, then goes black again. this is the only known way to get anything on screen so far. but doesn't really help the situation.

repair person in my school doesn't think it is a backlight problem.

could it be the inverter? if i see hard enough under strong light, i can see that the display is still ON the screen, just not bright enough to be seen.

now i am using a separate monitor from the vga port, nothing is shown on the separate monitor when i power on, when the login thing comes up after xp fully booted, it gets displayed on this monitor fine. (previous it says something like power safe mode on, press anything key or move mouse. but actually does not respond no matter what i do)

what is the problem here

    thx for reading!

Got the same problem few months ago.. Dell tried to sell me a replacement for my HD 1920x1200 screen for €660. So I just bought an other laptop and an external screen for my inspiron which still worked really good.

My tip: just buy a new laptop, it's really not worth the hassle!
