    Please help!

I ordered a XPS M1210 with the option "Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 Internal Wireless".

Here's a picture if you are interested: http://www.bowdoin.edu/~yzhuang/image/dellwireless.JPG

Intel has two types of 3945 wireless cards: dual band 802.11 b/g or tri band 802.11 a/b/g.
Refer to Intel's website if you are interested (under choice of products):
    http://www.intel.com/network/connectivity/products/wireless/prowireless_mobile.htm

My college's wireless is 802.11b, so either one will work. But after I place my order, the wireless card under order status shows up as "Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 802.11 a/g Mini Card (54Mbps) for XPS M1210".

Apparently DELL did not inform me that the card is an a/g one (I need an a/b/g wireless card).

My order is still under status "preproduction", but canceling it and re-placing my order won't work. Because there was no option to choose between a/g or a/b/g cards on the page where i placed my order.

    What can I do?

that is correct. You are getting an a/b/g the reason is that g is backwards compatible with b. g is really a g and b wireless card

Are you sure? As I read from a paper before, g is not backward compatible with b. This is one of the reasons I ma still hesitating to buy a Dell 6400.
