Okay, I've had my Studio 15 for about 2 weeks, and I'm loving it. But about 30 mins ago I decide to pop in a DVD for the first time. It went in, but the computer didn't recognize that there was a DVD inside the drive. I got another surprise when the eject button (which usually makes a whirring noise when pressed with an empty slot) did nothing whatsoever!
So I was panicking as to how to get that DVD out. So I shut down the computer and took out the battery, and then started it up again. During start-up (before I logged on) when I pressed eject the DVD came out. I then inserted another DVD and managed to take it out again. At this point I assumed everything was fixed, so I inserted the DVD again and logged on. AFter I logged on, it failed to read the DVD! It didn't even recognize a disc in the slot! And, it's stuck inside once more with the eject button doing nothing.
It's neither reading the disc nor letting it out! How can I fix this?? Any ideas son what the problem might be?
Thanks for any help!!![]()

Okay, I had this problem with not one, but two separate Studio 15's that I got from Best Buy. After taking one completely apart, I ended up finding the solution- if your machine is a 64-bit version of Vista, it's incredibly likely that you need to update the BIOS. I totally forgot about the golden rule of OS's: If you're experiencing an issue, and you have some type of Microsoft OS, odds are that's your problem. Here's the link- Direct Link[/QUOTE]
Download the BIOS, flash, reboot. Shouldn't have a DVD problem afterwards -
thanks!!!!!

I am having a similar issue with my Studio 15. When I boot up, sometimes, the eject light is stuck on and the system beeps rapidly and repeatedly (one a couple occasions, just letting it sit there and beep will eventually result in a boot, but that is not typical). I have found that holding the power button down until it powers off then removing the battery and booting up fixes it. It does not happen all the time, just every 3-4 boots. Do you think the bios update would fix this too???
Thanks,
Ben
