Hey, I just purchased a Dell laptop today. I decided to get the 3 year at your home next day, tech support warranty with it..normally $250 I think but the guy offered me 8% off the entire computer if I got it, so basically it was $180.

I have never paid for warranties before becasue I always felt they were a ripoff, we really take care of our things, but on the flip side I heard before that laptops are the one thing you should consider getting a warranty on.

What do you think??? We take care of our stuff but know zero about computer troubleshooting/repair, I'm just really frugal and its hard to justify the extra $200.00 so I'm kind of getting cold feet.
    Please advise ASAP!!

Well, since you just ordered today... did you use one of the 20% off coupons found under the dell tab at the top of this page? Warranties are kind of personal preference, some credit cards will give you a year warranty if you purchase the laptop with them

Thanks for your reply. I didnt use any coupon codes becasue the only ones I found were for expensive systems, I just got the bare bones one @ $699 lol
but it still had 1G RAM, 160G hd and a 15.4 screen ..lol

I have another question for you I have a new Dell E1505 with a 4 year Complete Care (and I sure didn't get the deal you got) and now Dell wants to upgrade it to a 5 year for $70. This laptop is just a play thing for me as I have a desktop that I do heavy duty stuff with, do you think it would be unreasonable to think a laptop could last 5 or 6 years? I probably wouldn't be in a hurry to upgrade it.

If so then would upgrading to 5 years be such a bad thing?

Seems like a waste of money to me... I'm sure five years from now you won't really care whether that laptop is covered or not.

I wouldn't extend a laptop warranty for five years. Two years is about my limit as far as how far behind I can stand being (I have a three year warranty on my M1210 and expect to sell it well before that expires). The question isn't whether or not the laptop will continue to run, it's whether or not you can stand to still be using something that will then be heavier, slower, and much less powerful than a new notebook. In the end though, you have to decide if you will still be satisfied with your notebook in five years.
