HELP! Resolution is set and can't change it!

I need help! I just started the computer and the resolution went kaputt and I can't change it. I tried reinstalling drivers, I even went to Dell's and nothing changes and rolling back. Resolution is supposed to be 1440x900 32-bit but now is set to 640x480 4-bit and whenever I try to change it, screen flickers, windows states it has changed it but you can see it hasn't, then accept new resolution and it goes back to 640x480. Even at Display, it says Multiple Monitors which is not true. Fn+F8 doesn't work either (or maybe I can't see it because of resolution). So any suggestions?

 

Ok, it got fixed after rolling back and selecting the resolution while selecting List All Models on the Adapter tab under Properties>Advanced but the refresh rate is now 59Hz instead of old 60 and my eyes are getting used to the small lettering (letters were bigger before) and DPI is set to 96. Did letters shrink because of the change of refresh rate?

 

Download the latest drivers - boot into Safe Mode and completely uninstall the old ones, reboot back into Safe Mode and proceed to reinstall them.
^Even though you fixed the apparent problem, this is worth a try.

A change in the refresh rate would not change the size of the letters on the screen. Go Desktop Properties --> Appearance --> Effects and see if ClearType is enabled. Also make sure the font size is normal.

 

Thanks, Chaz. Hmmm.. as per your suggestion. I put Cleartype on, and now everything is different, lol. Good different though. Letters look smoother but still smaller. Will look for the drivers. I'm running Xtreme-G-Mobile 81.97, a bit older but didn't cause me problems before. Odd that I had these ones when the problem occured, installed the Dell ones, problem still persisted, rolled back to the Xtreme ones, and problem fixed. What is the difference of having refresh rate of 59 instead of 60?

 

Some games may not like 59, and therefore probably will not run.
