right now the only way to get it cheaper is through dell directly.. you could try calling to do the order and tell them you are considering dell as well as a few others and can get the same config for a bit less... or other things etc... there are no great coupons this week imo.

Another way to save money is to choose the cheapest RAM option, and buy the 2 gb elsewhere and install it yourself. You will have to remove the keyboard to install the RAM on the D630, but it's not that hard and there are instruction in the service manual, and also there's a guide if you search on this website. You can get 2 gb (2x1gb) for about $80-$90 at newegg.com. So this will save you over $100 if you choose the 512 mb option from Dell.

By the way, I do agree that the Latitude D630 would be a better choice for you than the Inspiron/Vostro machines if you're not gaming and law school is your main use for it.

    No coupons on the Latitudes.

If the school pricing is more expensive than small business pricing, then order through the small biz store.

You could also call up and haggle with them... some people here have reported getting better deals that way.

sorry, i meant to say that this is the 1420 - not 1520....

do u think the 1420 would be noticeable heavier to take with me to school thatn the d630?

i may be wrong, but accotrding to the site, the 1420 is .3 lb more.....

and, considering the starting price and 300 off 1300 discount, the 1420 would seem like you can upgrade almost everything and get it for about 1k....

    no?

I dunno... you have to decide if the extra .3 pounds or so is acceptable to you. It's also significantly thicker.

But if you're getting the 1420... have a look at the Vostro 1400 instead. Same machine except it's all black, and generally cheaper.
