I just reinstalled my new inspiron6400, after I done, I found I couldn't put my notebook in standby status any more. Can anyone help me resolve this problem? Thanks.

Did you follow SouthernGirl's install guide? Did you make sure to install all of the required drivers and necessary software (like QuickSet and the Dell System Software)?

If you didn't, read SG's guide and perform the necessary steps.

Yes, I did follow that guide step by step and installed QuickSet and all other drivers in that disk, except video graphics driver - that's another problem I am having.

Just now, I also went through the "format and reinstall questions" thread. Found a guy (in page5) had almost same problems as I met, no standby/hibernate option, but I don't understand how to put QuickSet in Startup as he finally figured out.

The video drivers will need to be installed before StandBy and Hibernate will function correctly

You may need to install the .NET 1.1 framework before you can install your video drivers (if you have an ATI card, that is the case with the Catalyst drivers).

Thanks for making me clear what makes errors. Maybe that's the reason I failed to install video driver. Then, could you tell me where I can find .NET 1.1 framework to install? Is it possible to download it from somewhere? or ask DELL sending me a copy? I'm a newbie, actually I'm now so regret about flippantly formated my new notebook.

It's available from the Windows Update site.

You don't REALLY need Quickset. Check your power settings in the XP control panel, chances are very good that the defaults aren't set properly. If I remember correctly, that's all I had to do after reformat.

Go to the Dell site and download all of the necessary drivers. Don't use any driver disk that Dell supplies, since those drivers would be outdated anyway.
