i have no idea how to shift over to use my "@" button or any button that has more than one symbol etc to a key.. THER AINT NO SHIFT BUTTON AND ITS DRIVIN ME CRAZY....

No shift button as the key is physically gone or as in it is not pressing down(or not activating when pressed)? Make sure you are pressing the right key(can just be an "block" up arrow symbol on the side) and try the other shift button on the other side of the keyboard.
Also, you can also use the shift button on the on-screen keyboard(in accessories folder/Ease of use folder in the start menu) -

Hi Pennytfox
My name is Dilpreet and I work for the Social Media and Community Team at Dell. I would love to help you with it.
I am sending the link which would have the image of the keyboard for Inspiron 1525 which shows where the shift key would be.

There are two shift keys. There is a one key next to the letter 'Z' with the up arrow on it and there is one right under 'ENTER' key with the arrow up.
Waiting for your reply
Glad to assist you!
Thanks and regards
