Hi everyone, thanks for click in to read this thread :)

I got my I9300 about a year ago:

    1.73 P-M
    2g ram (upgraded from newegg.com)
    gforce 6800 go (no o'c)
    100g hdd

I remember when I first got the laptop, it NEVER heat up, not even while playing games. (I'm a gamer and I spend alot time playing games on I9300) Now just recent month, I noticed my I9300 has gotten hotter and hotter...like it never did this before. Few days ago I started playing WoW and just after few minutes on WoW (in mid-high video setting), the CPU temperature reached 137 F :( ( 6x C ) and it only get hotter when i keep playing.

The left side and right side of the laptop (where fans at) is warm but not *too* hot. Problem are the bottom of the laptop where RAM is at, is really hot, also the part above of keyboard, and upper right corner of keyboard (around F12), is VERY hot, too hot that I cant put on my lap anymore. Now I usually put i9300 on desk, and the desk surface becomes warm-hot.

Heat is the only problem now, my i9300 is still quiet, smooth but the heat scares me  I tried to get those usb cooling pad, but they are too small for this 17" laptop.

please, any help would be appreciated, and thank you for your time.

oh ps: I'm not using the winxp home ed. that came with the laptop, I uninstalled it totally, then installed winxp prof in, could this possibly be the cause of heating?

Yeah, I'd definitely open it up and clean out the fans. It's amazing how much dust and junk gets in there.

The RAM area is going to get hot no matter what you do unless you get a cooling pad. My RAM module has become so hot that at times it feels like it is burning me. I've never had any problems when it was hot, but still it is not the best feeling to have a burning laptop on your lap. The best thing you can do for the RAM area is to make sure that it is getting enough ventilation.

Yeah, since the RAM has no active cooling, it's gonna be tough to keep the temps down in there. Luckily it's in the center of the notebook, so my legs don't usually directly touch that part of the bottom.

Thanks for the response, I will try follow the cooling guild first.

and Chaz: I'm really not sure if my fan's are on, I dont hear any noise of fans running tho.. What if the fans are not running?

And is there a guild to open up I9300??

    Here is the service manual:
    http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins9300/sm/index.htm

The fans are controlled by the BIOS and they are very quiet. Normally once a certain temperature is reached, they will come on but you won't here them unless they are blowing full blast. You should be able to put your hand near the fan area and feel air when they are on .

doubt it... I would guess that the laptop isn't hot enough. It seems like it has to be on fire in order for them to come on.

nowdays, just turn on my laptop, leave it there (doing no task), and after a while, it gets warm...

my GPU temperature (from nvidia control panel) is at 66 after turning laptop on for a while, is this normal?

you can go into your power settings and quickset should have a "max performance" setting. it keeps my fans on 24/7
