I dont know for sure, but is there like a Pause/Break/Sleep key? Also read the manual and see if theres a possible Function Key combo or something.

These types of issues are frequently USB related with XP. XP has several selective suspend and resume issues with USB. I would ensure you have run the latest updates from MS update site. There is a USB rollup QFE that just recently released. Also, reset the BIOS settings to default if you have done any changes there.

I updated all patches for XP, reset the BIOS and it still doesn't work. After it went to standby mode (either close the lid or click shutdown to standby), the screen stay blank.

The computer IS responding, however it's only blank screen. I pop a cd/dvd into the drive, and it's loading.

Could it be the video driver?

    Worth a try -

    Fn + CRT/LCD (F8) or
    press the power button

We have Dells deployed at work, and this is the solution to 99% of our "my screen went blank!" woes.

    Good luck,
    P
