    hey all,
I just received my replacement 1420..... my original had CPU whine.... and guess what? SO DOES THIS ONE.. and its even louder. Not only that, i think its missing a coat of paint on the cover. My original is alpine white (has a glossy finish as stated on the dell website).. the replacement is alpine white but its like a MATTE finish.. weird.
anyway.. i don't know what to do now.... i defnitely rather keep my old one... but it still has the cpu whine problem. What are the next steps to be taken... THanks so much for your help in advance.

(I'm over the 30 days guarantee thing now)...

    Call Dell and complain.
Your 30 days may have reset to the day when they shipped the replacement.

Can we really do that? Cuz I request for a replacement as well, and it won't get here at least until November 6th. I heard that a lot on this forum that we can keep the better one and send the other one back. However, I got the UPS return shipping label which only available for 10 days on Monday. That means I must send it back before next Wednesday which is October 31st. I can't even get the replacement before sending it back. :( How did you guys do that? Do I need to make a special request for doing that? I have a XPS M1330 and I live in Canada if that matters.

yes you can. just call them and tell them you will be shipping back the replacement because it is worse than the first one. but yes you can. simply tell them you want a shipping label to come with the new system so you can have the one you are on currently till the new one arrives, and more importantly DEMAND a REPLACMENT NOW.. TELL THEM you use it for school or work and you can not send it back and wait for another one you need this one till the new one comes. if they tell you no tell them you want their manager. then tell the manager if he can not do what you want you want the escalation dept and dont say anything further till they put them on just simply repeat i want the escalation dept again this is only if the manager can not help you first

Call them and ask for T7500 replacement. Most likely, you will get it. Maybe T7500 has less whine???

    Thanks, zfactor. I will try.

My current laptop has T7500 already. If T7500 has less whine, hope the replacement won't have this problem.

Okay man, listen.. I've dealed with HP, Alienware, Dell, Acer, the whole nine yards, and believe it or not, this CPU whine issue is typical...

What resolved the problem, getting RMClock.. disable popup.. tada.. The smaller they make notebooks and the faster they rush these things to market causes these stupid small annoying issues.

I got a brick of a IBM laptop, really old must have been one of the first laptops around.. and it whines.. so..

my 1400 (basically same thing as 1420) has no cpu whine issue with either T5470, T7300 or T7500.

doesnt matter if its a t7500 all core 2's can whine. it really depends on that certain system.. you may still get another that whines. i had 4 that didnt whine and the last one i got had NASTY whine.. i mean it was loud
