I have an inspiron 6400 and connect to my broadband provider through pppoe. If i unplug the cable from my laptop without first disconnecting the connection from the system tray, the laptop hangs. No blue screen, everything just stops responding, mouse/touchpad/keyboard don't not work. I need to shut it off forcefully with the power button. Anyone experienced this before? What's causing it?

I have the same problem with my new Compal EL81. Probably the Gigabit Ethernet causes it.

BTW, no need to power off the system. System comes back to normal after a while...

Try updating the drivers... I believe you might be using Vista and the driver might have had some incompatibilty with Vista....

I've just found out that, reducing the connection speed (of the ethernet card) from 1000 mbps to 10 mbps fixes everything.
