I opted for the 'free' 15 month subscription of Trend Micro. Having never used TM before I'm wondering if I should stick with it or go with something else? I use Kaspersky on 3 other machines and think it's great. I can either purchase another license of Kaspersky or transfer a license from an older notebook. Or perhaps try Nod32 which I've read good things about as well.

Anyone else have TM installed and are happy with it?

    Thoughts?

Iwe seen that Trend Micro has big problems removing viruses and spyware, sure it finds EVERYTHING, but removes about nothing, each time it finds anything you need to take a note and remove it manually..

I've used Trend Micro in the past and had no problems with it at all. These days though, I think Kaspersky and Nod are each better choices, plus they seem not to have had problems with their own websites being hacked.

got my rig...and right after i fired it up ..trend would update and then ask for a reboot and keep looping..something to do with their firewall..so I dumped the thing and just use online scans no resident ...just riding the net bareback baby!!!.nod32 is awesome ...but unsure on how good the security suite component is..cheers!!!

Mine did that too, but it was easily fixable by uninstalling and reinstalling the firewall. There's a utility to do this in the Trend folder (I forget what it's called).

Trend usually rates better than the free antivirus, and I'd rather have it than McAfee or Norton, but for a pay antivirus I'd choose NOD32 or Kaspersky (based solely on the reviews and user opinions I've read about them).

For some reason, my computer won't hibernate. I shut the lid when I walk away, open it up later, and the screen won't come on. The keyboard lights (m1730) all stay illuminated, but I have to power down the computer and turn it back on to do anything. Upon startup Windows says it thinks it's a problem with TM. This is my only issue so far, hoping to find a fix for it.

Other than that, it downloads it's updates and monitors everything pretty well.

if you check out cnet trend micro didn't do too well. I would stick to kaspersky (best antivirus rating on cnet) if i were you and just put the trend micro on an old pc

Thanks for all the responses (& apologies for the cross-posting). I will dump TM and install a 30 day of Nod32. Then will decide to throw Kaspersky or Nod32 onto the machine once the trial is up. :)

Yes, you do if you're using a Windows OS. How smart you are (or, are not) has no bearing on needing an AV. If you surf wisely that's helpful, but not a guarantee that you won't get hit with a virus.

I had Trend Micro on my new XPS M1530, it kept causing problems i.e. re-boots etc.. so I got rid of it. My desktops and my Wifes laptop all have Kaspersky (Which i really Like) however i thought I'd give NOD32 a go so I downloaded it. So far it's great, is it better than Kaspersky ? I can't say but I'm going to give it a try :)

Kaspersky or NOD32 you can't go wrong

AVG Free works excellent.. I have it installed on all my machines. It takes up barely any resources compared to Trend.

    Yup,

I've never had virus issues doing legit things on my computers. I went 3 years before this laptop without a single virus or intrusion. The only reason why I'm using TM now is because it's free.

Hate to break it to all of you but antivirus and firewalls are complete BS. Just another ploy to suck money out of people. Surf smart and make a ghost (full backup) of your hard drive before you surf. This way on the off chance something does happen it's a matter of 5mins for a full reinstall.

Problem is some people are incapable of surfing smart, and I suppose that's where antivirus may come in handy. It certainly isn't a good substitution however.

As far as firewalls, anyone that can/wants to break into your computer and steal your information can. There's hackers out there that are breaking through military and international bank securities, do you really think you're crappy lilttle 50 dollar firewall is doing anything? lol The only thing that firewall is stopping are the script kiddies who wouldn't even know what to do with your info anyways.

    Anyways, I'm ranting now....

AVG Free Edition works fine for me as well. Sick of Norton hogging all my system resources.
