I was just curious. Before I just wiped out my Dell D620 HD of everything, I check the available HD space. This is a ball park recall of about 67 GB from 100 GB HD.

After I reformatted the HD, leaving the 47 MB partition, I noticed I had 93 GB after installation. What was installed that used up so much space?

    I will never know.

I would guess for something to of taken up that much space it must of been the PC Restore which holds a complete image file of your original installation if you selected that option when ordering your laptop (the default).
