    Hey,

I have an Inspiron 700m is a few years old now. It is still running great, except at seemingly random intervals the hard drive cannot be found during bootup. When this occurs I have to power off the laptop and then reseat the hard drive, which fixes the problem and everything works great again.

I have never suffered any data loss and everything runs great except for this one intermittent problem.

Any suggestions on how I can fix this? Is a new hard drive the solution?

If you have to re-seat the HD in order for it to work, then obviously there is a problem with the connection. You have to replace/fix the connector where you plug the drive.

Lemmie ask you this: when you open up the hard drive bay, is the drive loose and then you put it back into place snuggly, or does it sit right just that the connection is bad?

I thought the same thing about the connection problem, but I am thinking it might be the drive for two reasons:

    1) Everything worked great for the first two years or so.
    2) The connection seems to be good when I open up the HDD bay, I can't see anything loose or out of place.
