I dropped something on the palm rest of my computer directly above the hard drive. The computer now won't start. I took the hard drive up and hooked it up an an external box. It's not showing up on Windows or Ubuntu. It's not clicking, but it's not loading either.
Do I have any software options to try to get into it, or am I going to have to bring it in for physical recovery?

If it's making a rhythmic or constant series of noises, game over. We're talking physical damage from the head(s) hitting one or more of the platters.
If it's not making noise whatsoever, that must have been one large item you dropped. -
in my opinion you should go for Data Recovery | Hard Drive Recovery | RAID Data Recovery they are the best for hard disk recovery

I have also used Hard Drive Recovery | RAID Recovery Hard Drive Recovery | RAID Recovery for hard drive recovery and had a very good experience. I spoke with a gentlemen there who was very knowledgable and also gave good advice on how to make sure this did not occur with our RAID servers.
