    Hey guys,

Ok heres the deal, i've got a Dell 9400 (got it like two weeks ago, by the way thanks to all the guys who talked about overclocking the 7800, makes one hell of a difference in performace, i'm loving BF2 on it) And a couple of days ago i noticed that the harddrive was making some quiet but noticable grinding noises, were before i hadn't heard it. I've only owned one laptop before this one (it was a crappy tosihba) but it used to make similar noises. I was just wondering if anyone else is hearing similar noises in thier computer (like should i be ringing dell to complain) or is this a pretty common thing in laptops i'm pretty sure that there was no noise before though. Anyway thanks alot in advance guys

My hard drive is dead silent on my new e1705. I have to put my ear onto the case before I can hear anything at all. I think you should be giving a call to dell and inquire about it.

Normally HDD will have a bit of noise. I think it depends on the speed and manufacturer as to how much you'll get.

On my 7200rpm drive, i don't here it unless my ear is close to the drive.

If you are concerned about it, you could always request a new HDD from dell.

There is also a BIOS setting that lets you change from quiet to performance mode. You'll notice some more HD noises, but the speed boost is worth it to me (about 15%)

Thanks alot for the input guys :)

i think i might have a problem but i've thought about it and i think i'm going to hold off giving Dell a call on this one, i'll sit on it and see what eventuates, mainly becuase my lappy is the only computer i've got right now that will boot up, my main pc's died last week, file system corrupted somehow :( my luck with computers is terrible, which is pretty bad considering i'm a Programmer by trade (dam you computer gods!! why won't you let me have at least one working pc!!!).

I'll post back here in two weeks and let you know if it eventuates into more of an issue.
