Okay my harddrive is making loud clicking noises, should i be concerned?
Also, my right side hinge, makes a clicking sound when i open or close the laptop, even if i jiggle the screen forwards and backwards. Should I also be concerned?

I might call dell and demand a replacement harddrive and hinge. Although my 21 or 30 day w.e it is return is up. And I don't wanna send my system back. What are the options, they send me the parts and i send back the old ones. Or they send an entire new system and i send back the old one in the same box?

    Input please.

I have the 7,200rpm 200GB hard drive by Hitachi which clicked like crazy. Swapped from the stock 5,400rpm 80GB, which was very quiet by comparison.

F2 on boot, experiment with the different Hard Drive settings and observe. There are three settings - bypass / quiet / performance. The explanations for each setting are in there.

Long story short, I was able to quiet it down by switching the BIOS setting to 'Performance'. Go figure.

    Good luck.

Well after further research, I discovered, clicking is normal. Modern drives lock the head assembly when not being accessed in case the notebook is dropped.

Smaller clicks from, when re-calibration happens which is triggered automatically when the drives temperature changes

But repeative clicks is apparently a bad sign so I feel a little bit reassured.

But the clicking hinge.. another story
