I just received my second replacement 1400 and the Hardare ID in the Device Manager for the monitor is CMO1429. Does anyone know anything about this screen? Who the manufacturer is? From what I understand there are only the AUOs and the SAMSUNGs for the 14" screens. I haven't seen this one mentioned before. The Item Number is 320 5566 and the Part Number is TT444, however the first two I got(original and first replacement) had the same Item and Part Numbers but their hardware id's were SEC4457(Samsung). What gives? If anyone can shed any knowledge on this I would appreciate it. By the way, I still have the first one I received and when comparing the display on both of them side by side they look the same. Neither of them looks any better than the other.

Sorry, its a WXGA+. Thanks Lithus. Is Chi Mei Optoelectronics a good manufacturer. How do they compare with the others(AUO, SAMSUNG, LG)?

Dell doesn't use WXGA+ CMO screens AFAIK.

From what I've read on the forums, a CMO screen is a MATTE 1280x800 screen.

    Interesting...

Just double checked and Hardware ID is CMO1429 and resolution is 1440 x 900 with a glossy screen. So now I have two of them, one CMO and one SAMSUNG, to compare to each other and I am trying to descide which one to keep. Aside from the visual display quality, I'd like to find out about the manufacturer's reputation for their products, particularly these displays. I will be comparing both of them now and will post my findings.

Right now its daytime here and there's alot of glare off the glossy screen so its making a little hard to compare them. Although I got both systems side by side, I got different windows giving off different light from different angles and I can't darken the room completely. I will take note of comparisons under these conditions, but I think I need to wait until night to make a better comparison. So bear with me because it will be awhile till nightfall. FYI, I'm in Hawaii so it'll be about 8 hrs from now.

Out of interest, why did you decide you were not happy with your SEC screen? (Just wondering if they all have the same problems as mine)

I immediately noticed the grainy appearance of the display and I've read many times on here that the LG screens don't have that problem. So why not get a better/best screen that I can, right? Only thing is, found out after that Dell doesn't even have LG screens for their 14" notebooks. Only 15" and I think maybe 17". I'm sure you've read about the issue on this forum, it's all over the place. Anyway, the viewing angles are really bad and it just doesn't look as sharp as I would expect for a high res display.

Yeah I definately know, I'm not after a replacement following my 3rd ****ty screen. My current SEC isn't too badly grainy, only mildly but viewing angles are terrible and it has faint horizontal lines across everything heh.

Dell do use LG screens for 14" laptops, just as an example: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=2265900&postcount=74

My 1400 wxga is a LG also. The 14 inch wxga LG screen isn't as good as the 15 inch wxga+. I have light grainyness, not enough to really be bothersome for me. Brightness and color are adequate, but viewing angles are still awful and there's still a fair amount of light leakage from the bottom of the panel. I'm going to stick with this one because it's good enough, but I'm still not really satisfied. I'm spoiled from my HP dv8000t's 17" UltraBrightview screen that was perfect.
