Once I selected all the options for my E1405, I got one price and never again saw the individual prices. I have gone in several different times since then and never been able to duplicate it. It seems like when there is a higher discount (35%) the starting price just shows higher. Then, when the discount is 20%, the starting price is a little lower. Has anyone ever gotten a detailed receipt showing the individual options selected?

I guess you have discovered how Dell rips off its customers. One the coupons are just a PITA, and two, they don't Itemized your invoice, so you have a difficult time proving they sent you the wrongly spec'd machine.

every dell computer i've ever gotten came with a detailed itemized invoice (servers, workstations, dekstops, and notebooks).

i have no idea what #2 is talking about. how can dell "rip you off" if you got what you paid for? has ANYBODY ever had to "prove" they got the wrong specs and if so, did dell refuse to remedy the problem?

    please do not post misinformation.

if you have a problem with pricing, talk to dell. unless they charged you more than you agreed to pay, i don't see where the problem is.

    Here is the situation:

My receipt/order confirmation/order all shows one price for the e1405 ($1666) less 35% Discount (-583.10). Then it shows the printer I purchased at $99 and the Router at $50. Almost every day that I go to Dell.com there is a different component price for Basic Office (sometimes $130, today it is $119).
There are different prices for the 4 year warranty, different prices for media center reinstallation CD (today it is $30, I think it was $10 the last time I looked). I don't remember what each component was and I cannot get back to the $1666. I wanted to return the Basic office software because I don't need it, but they are telling me I paid a bundle price of $52 and that is what I would get refunded after the shipping. I know I paid more than that (I think around $135 "maybe" less 35%). But I have no proof because I don't have an itemized receipt. It is hard to compare deals and know what you paid when you don't have that. I probably would have kept track myself but I ordered it at a kiosk and I assumed that the receipt it spit out would have everthing itemized. I didn't notice that it did not until after the fact...

    hmm.

the only thing i can think of is that you have to remember that if you used a coupon to buy the system, that % off applies to all your upgrades as well.

for example, IF a software bundle was $100 and you used a 35% of coupon to buy the system, then you only paid 100-35=65 dollars for the upgrade.

maybe this is where you're getting confused

I thought of that but I have never seen the basic office for under $100. I really think it was around $130, which would make it $84.50 after the 35% off. The frustrating part is just not knowing. If I had to do it over, I would write down each option so that I could recompute the price. I think I still overpaid even with the 35% off...but I did get the 4 year warranty, which appeared to be just $50 and refundable with rebate on the day I purchased.

Does this basic office sofware bundled with dell work on other computers? Is there any reason I can't just sell it and get my money back that way? After paying to ship it back, I will probably net around $40...

Well, I don't know if it will be the same for you, but I received an itemized list of specs for my machine in the mail a few days after I got the computer. I got the computer on a Monday and I think I got the receipt on that Saturday.
