you know that moving large files on XP was much quicker and with vista it was a pain. Have they fix this in the SP1 release?

I've read it's faster but still not as fast as XP.

It is faster...for my money as fast as XP. What is NOT faster, though, is copying files from one spot on a drive to another spot on the drive, which remains dreadfully slow. (for example, every time you download a file, you are actually copying it from a tempoary cache to its ultimately location when the download completes. With a large file, this takes quite a bit of time still.

This is what IE used to do. Firefox doesn't use this method, but I am not sure about the latest IE since I don't use it.

I used SP1 about a month ago and it fixed the slow transfer speeds for me. I haven't gotten a chance to update it on this new computer yet though.

moving large files to other drives is fine....

and atbnet--I know that is what IE is supposed to do, that was not my point. My point is, because it copies (rather than moves) files from one are to another slowly, this process is unduly slow.
