I know that on the dell site it states that the studio only supports 4gb ram. But I know the chipset supports 8gb ram. I was wondering if any one has tried more than the 4gb.When I look at the report from everest, it states that the system supports 8gb. Thanks for any input on this matter

AFAIK, no one has reported here about their Studio supporting more than 4GB but I could be wrong. ;)

I'll try it if you send me two 4GB chips. ;)

The 1537 will support 8GB I'm sure as that is allowed by the Chipset. Dell documentation doesn't always post actual limits.

For example, the 1535 can address around 6GB or so even though Dell says it stops at 4GB.

Yeah, I do. Since the 1535 is Santa Rosa, if it supports 6-8GB, surely the Montevina 1537 will too.
A while back, I read here on NBR that someone put 6GB into their Santa Rosa XPS1530 and got it working (even though officially that system only supported 4GB at the time.)

Always worth a try (if you have the parts.)

:D Now if someone would please send me some 4GB DDR2 RAM chips... :D

Well if the 1537 will support 8GB then the 1737 should as well, when Windows 7 hits I am dropping 2 4GB DDR 800 RAM chips in my 1737. For a total of 8GB

although DELL's says 4GB is the max.

Excuse the slightly necro topic bump, but curious if anyone has actually tried putting more than 4GB in their 1537 or 1737 Studio's yet? It'd be a real nice plus for these machines if they could handle the full limit of their chipsets. Regardless, a 4GB limit on a laptop this new seems like a real hinderance to start with honestly.

Interesting idea ... just a reminder that you would need a 64-bit OS to take advantage of the additional RAM ;)

Well there was a guy who posted something similar in this forum. ;) Debunking the myth. haha

Here's the guide if anyone wants to know some proof or reference. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=305464

(Apparently, some "idiots" still challenged me for further evidence despite that I have already provided them proof that the Santa Rosa GM965 and PM965 crestline chipsets work with more than 4GB and a working BIOS that can recognize it.)

At the moment it seems DDR2 chips are expensive. Good thing I bought my sticks earlier.

In regards to the Studio series, I guarantee it will work with it. If the Inspirons can, I'm sure the Studio can easily. We just need someone to get the ball rolling. ;)

EDIT: Just realized that this thread is fairly old.

Not even a month...not that old really.

Maybe the way the economy is, we may have to wait ;)
