Just curious if Dell is shipping the Inspiron E1505/6400 yet. My E1505 is tested and waiting in Boxing since Saturday. Hard to imagine a part/SKU holding up boxing.

It takes around 3 days in boxing because it is being shipped from Malaysia to Tennessee. Then it will take about another 24 hours for it to show up in the shipper's tracking system because dell uses a 3rd party shipper to go from Tennessee to the regional center.

    Thanks SouthernGirl,

I knew about Malaysia to Tennessee, didn't know about the 3 days for "boxing." So mine is free ground freight, will that be FedEx or UPS? Also, will that hand-off be in Tennessee, or you mentioned regional centers?

To get these from Malaysia to Tennessee means a lot of 747 freighters going back and forth. Some business model. :)

I'm not sure which it will be. I think they use both for laptops. They use some local carrier to take to the regional UPS/FedEX/DHL center - that is what I was told by Dell.

Please post your commnets on it as soon as you get it. I am planning to buy it once I get some positive responses from users. Didn't find any reviews for it in any websites(cnet..).

the excellent 20% off deal for e1505 with core duo is tempting at dell.com.
but why can't they offer core duo with 14 inch screen, I really don't need the 15.4 which only makes the machine heavy.
anyway, once I hear some good things here about e1505, I am willing to exercise more to carry it...

If Dell offers a P-M 14" now, then you can bet they will offer a Core Duo version . . . soon. For all intents and purposes, the Pentium M is dead and gone.

It just takes time to roll through their product line. After all Core Duo requires a new MB plus a number of other changes. Be patient.

I believe that the 6000 class [15.4"] is their single most popular lappie, so makes sense to update it before the 14".

My E1505 is out for delivery, so it will be arriving this morning. Ordered it March 1st, so it was a 14 day time period from order placement to delivery. I'll post my comments once I get a chance. Here are my plans:

    Part 1:
Remove all the pre-installed garbage that I have no use for.
    Run Windows Update.
Install Office 2003, antivirus software, and a few other apps.
Create an image and store it on my desktop.

    Part2:
    Load Vista Beta 5308.
Evaluate CPU, Page performance of the OS while idle.
If the beta is stable enough, I'll load a few apps and see how they work under Vista.
If I like it enough, I'll attempt to make an image...not sure if Ghost will handle Vista Beta-I have my doubts.

    Part3:
Do a clean install of Windows XP Pro, load all apps, repair Media Direct, and make an image.

Only an hour or two until arrival :)

does anyone know what's the actual difference between e1505 and 6400, as you can get them with same conf and same price from dell.com, except that e1505 you can access as home user and 6400 from business user site

There is No Difference, unless you count the different label. On the E1705/9400 the boot screen of the E1705 says 9400.

For whatever reason, the powers at Dell, decided to have different model names on Business vs Home. Who cares.

    Besides, I thought you wanted a 14". ;)

It's here! First impressions- the laptop is nice, if you've seen the 6000 or the XPS M140 etc. it's the same sort of finish and build. Definitely heavier than the XPS M140, but then again it's a 15" screen on the E1505. Dell has the usual lot of **** applications pre loaded. It will take some time for me to get rid of the garbage and prep it for an image. I'm glad I'm going to eventually load a clean install of XP on here because it really comes with wayyy too many garbage apps. The system tray had nearly a dozen or more items in there. I'm going to start a new thread for more details.

I would prefer 14 but it depends on when they come out as my friend is going to the U.S. on April 4 already
Core duo and 15.4" ways up (also literally, hehe) centrino and 14" in my opinion

    COOL!!!!

So far as I'm aware you're the first to get an E1505, at least on NBR forums. Looking forward to your reports, reviews. I'm already glad I ordered the XP MCE CD's for that clean install. :)

Now I understand, clearly the 14" won't be available in time for your friend and unlike me, a rebate at a lower price is just more pain than its worth. I'd bet you could get the E1505, sell it at a profit in 6-12 months, and get a 14" then if you want to go lighter. This of course assumes you or a friend are visiting. Go Gal !!! :)

    SouthernGirl,

As you predicted, 3 days in "boxing". It is now in transit to a local carrier. There's an outside chance I'll have it by Friday.

:) Your package is in the UPS system and is on time with a scheduled delivery date of 03/17/2006. :)

    Thanks,

Now that I have my UPS tracking number, I've learned a little more.

My box entered the UPS system in Nevada, not Tenn. That make me believe that Dell now has at least two air freight drop centers: Nevada and Tenn. It would make no sense for this 3rd party carrier to air freight boxes from Tenn to Nevada, when they could drive an hour to the nearest UPS regional distribution center.

    Two likely possibilities:
    1. The 747 touches down in Nevada on its way to Tenn.
    2. Dell is so big its running multiple full 747's

Anyway, something to bring up next time you talk to Dell.
