Here we go again, so I went over to the battlefield forums and asked for some help there, and they all seem to think it is an overheating issue, which I am 99% positive it is not.
We all agreed it is a texture issue, as you can see in the picture.

So has anyone else here had problems like this with BF2 in either Vista or XP?
I have played other graphically demanding games, CS:S maxed out completely, Two Worlds maxed out, Oblivion on high settings, Quake 4 almost totally maxed out, Age of Empires III maxed out, and C&C 3 nearly maxed out, and I have never had a texture issue that could be caused by overheating in any of those games. I even played Two Worlds with Nero Recode making a h.264 video in the background from a DVD, now if that wont cause overheating nothing will.
About to totally just give up...![]()

Whack-A-Mole.

We'll find out in a few days once my 1520 comes...
possibly try using different drivers? Check the temps of your gpu while playing games, it should tell you if your gpu is too hot.
EDIT: or reinstall? -

hes got xp
Does this issue occur on other maps? How reoccuring is it?
-
It occurs on every map. Latest patches for BF2 and XP installed.
Tried several different sets of drivers, from official, to non official but non-tweaked, and tweaked.
I really dont think it has anything to do with overheating since no other games give any errors at all. -

any slowdown? or are the "black holes" the only problem...? Also, if someone were to walk on the black patches, would you be able to see them?
-
Here we go, first map in single player. All high , 4x AA
Same config as yours except slower processor. -
looks great! What resolution are you playing and is it playable? What is your FPS. Thanks.
-
That pic was 1280 x 1024 in windowed mode and 30-40 FPS. Most of the time anyway. Haven't done any flying or big battles yet though.
-
-
Varies actually, I'm getting 50-60 FPS on another map online.
-
If you are running XP, could you let me know every driver you are using and where you found them? I'm starting to think I did a sloppy job installing XP and drivers and that can adversely affect BF2 (yet nothing else, weird). -
I'm using XP, all the drivers came loaded so yea =/
I did upgrade to 163.14 drivers with the modified .ini here though

How did you guys get this game to work? I installed it but when I try and play, I get a black screen for a sec then it goes back to windows and then...nothing.
Did you guys download something? This sucks man... -
Try the 163.14 drivers.
-
-
-
yea i can, usually about 60-80 fps to. im using 163.16 drivers. the only thing they do is in lotro the drivers will stop responding for a second and restart. haven't happened in bf2 yet though
-
-
I don't have a problem... when i can get my bf2 to work wit my lousy 512mb of ram.. it doesn't give me that problem! i did have a problem with farcry though, just one big blue screen!
-
those holes in the ground look like mines. That would screw with my head.
-
This is leading me to believe I seriously f'ed up something in my XP install...

Can anyone help me with selecting the appropriate driver to change the screens refresh rate? Im not very good with this kind of stuff...

FINALLY GOT IT FIXED!! After going through like 5 different sets of drivers and reinstalling XP, I figured it out.
It was clearly a texture issue, so I deleted my Battlefield 2 folder in "My Documents", and restarted BF2 and went into video and dropped textures and shadows down to the bare minimum, and voila! Problem solved!
Hopefully this helps anyone else having this problem.
Has anyone successfully played BF2 on 1520/1500?
