Here we go again, so I went over to the battlefield forums and asked for some help there, and they all seem to think it is an overheating issue, which I am 99% positive it is not.
We all agreed it is a texture issue, as you can see in the picture.

So has anyone else here had problems like this with BF2 in either Vista or XP?
I have played other graphically demanding games, CS:S maxed out completely, Two Worlds maxed out, Oblivion on high settings, Quake 4 almost totally maxed out, Age of Empires III maxed out, and C&C 3 nearly maxed out, and I have never had a texture issue that could be caused by overheating in any of those games. I even played Two Worlds with Nero Recode making a h.264 video in the background from a DVD, now if that wont cause overheating nothing will.

About to totally just give up... :(

We'll find out in a few days once my 1520 comes...

possibly try using different drivers? Check the temps of your gpu while playing games, it should tell you if your gpu is too hot.

    EDIT: or reinstall?

It occurs on every map. Latest patches for BF2 and XP installed.
Tried several different sets of drivers, from official, to non official but non-tweaked, and tweaked.
I really dont think it has anything to do with overheating since no other games give any errors at all.

any slowdown? or are the "black holes" the only problem...? Also, if someone were to walk on the black patches, would you be able to see them?

That pic was 1280 x 1024 in windowed mode and 30-40 FPS. Most of the time anyway. Haven't done any flying or big battles yet though.

Are you running Vista or XP?
If you are running XP, could you let me know every driver you are using and where you found them? I'm starting to think I did a sloppy job installing XP and drivers and that can adversely affect BF2 (yet nothing else, weird).

Set your screen refresh rate to 60hz, I can almost guarantee yours is set at 61hz if you're running default settings on the 1520, and BF2 will not launch at those settings for some stupid reason.

You gotta use drivers from laptopvideo2go.com, the Dell provided ones wont let you change it. And then just go to your settings and switch 'er up.

FINALLY GOT IT FIXED!! After going through like 5 different sets of drivers and reinstalling XP, I figured it out.
It was clearly a texture issue, so I deleted my Battlefield 2 folder in "My Documents", and restarted BF2 and went into video and dropped textures and shadows down to the bare minimum, and voila! Problem solved!
Hopefully this helps anyone else having this problem.
