I am asking because I am waiting for my insperion 1720 to come and I had to purchase the 1.83 Core 2 2 Duo T5550 to save on money at the time and I was wondering if I could upgrade it to say the T7700 or the T9300. If anyone has done a upgrade like this is it easy? I have heard on other laptops it consists of just unscrewing a botom pannel unscrewing the processor and adding the new one. Not sure if a Dell is that easy but it would be great if it was.

So any info on weather I will be able to upgrade or not and if I can how easy it is would be great.

I do not care about voiding the waranty

Yes you will remove just about everything. It's not as simple as adding RAM or changing the hard drive.

I think because you have to approach the CPU from the top. Therefore you have to first remove the palm rest, for that you need to take off the display.

Remember that it does void your warranty, AFAIK. I don't think the processor is considered user-servicable.

You can find very detailed instructions (with plenty of photos) in the Service manual released for DELL Certified Systems Experts. I uploaded it to MegaUpload for your convenience
    [LINK].

BTW this far more detailed than the normal service manual available at support.dell.com.

The service manual shows how to swap out the video card. Possibly useful information? =\
