Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone had a chance to use the online back-up provided by Dell yet? I'm asking because I had an idea about storing the recovery data from my new hard drive to it for future access. I'm toying with the idea of deleting the recovery partition all together.

Is this even possible for those who have experience with it? Also, aside from copying the image to another hard drive, what other options are there for saving the recovery partition for later use?

    Thanks in advance!

Id forget about the recovery partition all together and just rely on your windows disk for future reinstalls.

If you want bloatware... Sure keep and use that recovery partition. Personally, I deleted it within the first 10 minutes of getting my computer.

As far as that online back up service - nah never used it. It's as useless to me as tits on a bowl. My home has dialup due to the rural location.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I will probably just get rid of it all together as I don't need all the unecessary software, I just thought it had things that may be crucial to the system.
I'll just use the windows cd since it will get me up and running in an emergency.

Yeah, basically the restore partition is meant for those users who dont know how to install windows. For most users, especially us here on this forum (who are more computer enthusiasts than your typical user) its not needed.

    Exactly.

The recovery partition is loaded with bloatware, some of which is nearly impossible to uninstall cleanly. Reinstalling windows from the CD only takes a few hours, so it's a much better idea. A clean vista will only use up 500mb of ram.

I've used the Dell Backup and it worked......ok. I've since setup a Windows Home Server which IMO, works much better (except for the whole corruption fiasco going on right now.....but whatever).

As far as the restore partition goes, dump it and move in. You won't miss anything on it.
