OK, I need to know if there's anybody out there who has tried this, cause so far it's not working for me. Some 9300 & > owners say it "probably" won't work, but I've never gotten a difinitive answer from someone who's actually tried it.
My 9200 came with a Samsung WUXGA, which started flaking out about 14 months after I bought it. Turns out the plastic ribbon connector on the lower left edge of the LCD glass pane had started to come undone, and I lost the lower third of the screen.
I ordered a replacement from an LCD distributer in NYC (close to me), and the they sent me a Sharp WUXGA to replace my stock Samsung WUXGA. It wouldn't do anything when I installed it using it's own inverter. I used the Samsung inverter, and the screen is backlit, but no image.
If I plug the new Sharp screen into the Samsung inverter, but plug the LCD cable into the old Samsung screen, and then boot up, and then unplug the LCD cable from the Samsung and plug it into the Sharp, it works. ( -Yes, basically booting with both LCDs at once. The BIOS seems to want to see the Samsung, and the inverter needs to be plugged into the Sharp before it sees power because plugging it in while it's hot is a no-no.)
I've been back and forth via email with the LCD shop, and they got one to work in a 9200 they just got in to work on, but only for a few seconds because the battery died and the owner didn't send the adapter in with his notebook.
They didn't say to what extent they got it working, so I have no idea what to think. They did say that they had to use the laptop's inverter.
They don't carry Samsung or Phillips because of all the complaints they had read on forums. I think that they had read complaints about 18+ months ago when there was a big stink over sparkly screens. But I don't think Dell was using Sharp screens back when they made my 9200, and I think they started at about when the 9400 came out. I think maybe my BIOS can't recognize it, but I'm just not sure.
The problem here is that this screen is absolutely perfect, with no dead pixels, etc. I just know with my luck that if I don't try to find out if this thing will work with my 9200, that I will wind up sending it back and getting a Samsung or Phillips with 2 bright red pixels dead center or something. Then a few months later I'll wake up one morning eagerly anticipating my coffee only to find there's no milk in the fridge, and then I'll stumble onto a thread explaining how to make a Sharp WUXGA work with a 9200.
...And then I'll get a flat tire or something. (I dunno. -I just know it'll be a crappy day. Seems like getting a perfect WUXGA is rare, that's all.)
Has anyone with a 9200 tried installing a Sharp WUXGA? Anyone even HEARD of a 9200?
