I'm interested in buying a Latitude D620 soon but I'm hesitant since so many people had problems with the screen quality being very poor. Has Dell updated/improved it recently? Anyone buy one within the last month?

I would consider buying a D820 instead but I prefer the 14.1" form factor.

Also, anyone have an educated guess on when Dell will start selling Latitudes with Vista pre-installed?

i own a D820 the screen SUCKS I complained to Dell repeatidly and they've done nothing to date except offer to send a service person to replace it with the same dull blury screen...

they won't admitt their mistake on the screens... then they'd have to fix it ...

I've owned Dell's for 10 years, and they've gone downhill fast on quality and support....

Maybe Michael Dell is spending too much time supporting Bush and not enough time making sure his company is providing the service/product they promise to provide :)

That's unfortunate. From the looks of it, the D620/D820 have everything I want in a laptop besides the screen quality.

Do you have the WXGA, WXGA+, or WUXGA screen on your D820? I was thinking about the WUXGA if I go for the D820--mostly for Photoshop and I'm betting Vista deals with higher DPI settings better than XP does.

I guess I'll have to wait until the screen gets improved though... just can't wait to move off of this MacBook.

I have a D620 and the screen is usable, but its worth sacrificing a perfect screen IMO for the rest of the brilliant features you get with the D620; lightweight 14.1" WITH dedicated graphics, unlike the heavier Inspiron 640m.

Yea that's what I think I'll end up doing. Mostly because I get on campus support for Dell.

All of my engineering apps are Windows only and I'm tired of Parallels.

I have a D620 and yes the screen could be better but it is not that bad.
You can adjust the screen settings which I did since the default settings were a bit dark even on the high settings.
All in all its not that bad.
Compared to my Truelife 9300 its crappy but I can live with it and it doesnt hurt my eyes even after using it for 6 hours straight.

That's good to hear. My main concern is the sharpness. Is it blurry at all for, say, web browsing? Or is the main problem that colors are washed out? I suppose the color issue might be a problem too since I use Photoshop pretty often.

If you get one with the nVidia graphics chip, you get better control over the screen settings than the Intel GMA chip; so you can control some form of sharpness.

    No blurry screen at all.
Yes there is a sharpness settings and I believe mine is set at around 10 out of 100. I have to double check when I get to work since I left my laptop at work (Didnt need to do any work at home last night).
If you make it too sharp then the words look weird.
