So I can't sleep tonight, it's about 2:38 AM, and I have to get up at about 8. Great. So I get my laptop, and turn it on. Well, try anyway.

Nothing comes up. Not even the bios. The only reason I know it's "on" is because the "power" LED is on, I can hear the fan spinning, and for some reason all the NUM/CAP/SCROLL lock LEDS are on, and the CAPS LED is blinking. So I press the power button, and nothing happens (normally just pressing the power button in bios turns it off right away). I hold down the power button for close to a minute. Still nothing. I eventually pull the power cord out and then it decides to turn off when I try the button a third time. I turn it on again, same results. So I flip it over, rip out the battery, wait another minute, and put the power back in. She boots up as if nothing was ever wrong. What in the world?

Another thing is that occasionally when I boot up I'll get an error message saying that the power adapter could not be identified as a certified Dell one, and I'm given the option of continuing, never showing the message again, or rebooting. To fix it I unplug the adapter and plug it back into the wall.

Either of these normal occurrences for a very much loved, companion cube style, 1520?

Run the diagnostics. They may be accessible by holding down Fn when pressing the Power button to turn the laptop on - or from the One-Time Boot menu. If not, check in the manual. What you're seeing is obviously not normal.

Okay...this is weird, it did it again after I tried to use it once I was done with classes today. But this time, I spent about 10 minutes trying to get it to turn on. No avail. Good thing I've got my EEE here...or...*shudder*...I'd be without the internet. I'd have to go to a computer lab. Bleh.

Man, I really don't want to have to send my baby in for repairs...let some old guy in a guerrilla suit with a plastic hammer touch her parts...*shudder x2*.

Common guys, I've gotta Dell down over here! A Dell down!!

All kidding aside, what should I do? I figure I'll wait a bit and if it doesn't fix itself, I'll contact support. But I really don't want to lose my beautiful screen either, or my 8600gt, don't the newer 1525 lack those? Supposing they can't fix it and I get an "upgrade."

EDIT: Yeah, I can't get to any diag or one time boot things. It instantly goes into this mode when I press the power button. I don't have a chance to do anything

The NumLock, CapsLock, and ScrollLock LEDs together are diagnostic indicators. If it does not boot and the NumLock and ScrollLock are solid on, while the CapsLock is flashing, that indicates a memory error has been encountered. The first thing to try would be reseating the RAM modules. They are easily accessible, see the 1530 manual. If you plan to reseat them, be sure to discharge your body of static by touching metal, preferrably something like a plumbing pipe that goes to ground, or ideally using a grounded wrist strap. But you have free tech support, right?

I had a problem similiar to this on my inspiron 630m once, the cpu was not seated in the socket corretly. However unless you are accustom to taking apart computers i would not recomend you check this on your own, have dell do it for you.

I had this happen to me last Friday with my M1530. I tried booting up so I could work on my essay and the power LED would light up and I could see the Dell boot up screen then everything went blank. Eventually, I just let it sit there and tried again and it booted up. But, it told me there was an error during startup and it booted into startup recovery and tried to solve the problem. Its been working since then.

Wow, thank you so much! That worked beautifully. Apparently they one under the keyboard went bad somehow? Weird. I just bought it a couple months ago. Again thanks, I was starting to panic here.

Edit: Actually I just reseated the stick and it works fine too. Musta gotten placed wrong or something somehow. Anyway, Thanks again.
