Have you ever gotten a new dell replacement from the regular return to service depot warranty when your computer broke by itself? How did it break? over-heatage?

My friend did. He got an Inspiron 1505 as a replacement for an Inspiron 1100 after almost 3 years. It took 2 or 3 of times of sending back the 1100 and many hours on the phone but finally he received a replacement. I don't know if it was a refurb or not but it certainly looked new and it was way more powerful. The nice thing was they gave him a nicely configured 1505, not a basic model. I think in the end Dell did right by him but it took some stress and fighting to get it.

The customer does have the right to complain if they're not satisfied with their computer. What was wrong with it?

The gpu on my m1710 was replaced numerous times, as was the screen, ram and mainboard. In the end they offered me a total refund +£100 off an m1730.

M1730 was the most unstable, power sucking, slow and chunky machine I had ever owned, which also had a number of hardware problems. That went back and I was given a refund + £70 towards any dell laptop.

I ordered an inspiron 1720 which was working perfectly until the other week, looks like I'm going to have to return this one too.

    :(

Ouch, sounds like you've had a harsh experience with Dell.

You have to give them reasonable opportunity (usually 3 or 4 repairs) to fix the problem and then they are obliged to replace it if a solution is not forthcoming.
