Hey guys, was wondering if I could get some help. Hope this is the right place.

I have tried reformatting my inspiron twice now, but both times the same problems arise:

    1) I can't play music files on any type of media player, but I can use youtube
    2) I cannot directly connect to the internet

The problem started when I got a Trojan. I reformatted and then extracted a couple of drivers on the other disc that came with the dell. It worked for a bit and then went crazy again when I installed I-Tunes and Quicktime (needed for homework). So I did another reformat when I came back to my school. At school we have direct internet connection but my laptop won't read it. It won't even bother searching for it. I have no clue what's wrong.

Also, when I tried extracting the drivers from the other CD, they didn't seem to work. The checkmarks that appeared by the drivers to show the laptop had them installed did not appear by those that I installed drivers from.

Not exactly sure what's going on, but would appreciate any help!

Are you using the OS reinstall disks that Dell sent?

Reinstall with this method if you haven't done so already.

    Hi crash,

    Thanks for replying!

I don't think I got a mediadirect CD. I have the dell webcam manager, dell driver and utilities, dell OS and roxio. Was the mediadirect on the OS cd?

    No problem :)

To Answer your question: No, the MediaDirect CD is not the same as the OS DVD. The MediaDirect CD is blue and came in a white sleeve. You should have received one with your laptop. If it's missing, call Dell and have them send you one (you may need to pay for shipping).

I would try to install using the MediaDirect method and if that doesn't work, then you may need to wipe your disk with DBan and install from there.
