...on whether I should cancel my XPS M1530 or not. The delivery time is simply ridiculous and it is pot luck on whether you get a decent screen or not.

I could configure a desktop to a much higher standard for the same money and have it built in 5 days, but I'm not sure if I want to or not.

I already have a laptop which would do for going on the internet e.t.c when on the move. The only time I would require a laptop would be for holidays really. And you don't go on holiday to play games :) I'm sure I could manage not being able to game for a few weeks.

But you loose the coolness factor, and the show off ability with a desktop in favour of faster build times and better performance.

    Although I'm not sure I need a 8800 GT or not :(

Games I would be looking to play would be: FSX, Test Drive Unlimited, Alan Wake and GTA4. Maybe some other games will take my fancy, but it wouldn't be any FPS or anything like that.

So do I need the extra power available from the desktop?

Also, current XPS owners, are you happy with its gaming performance?

And would it play games in the next year or so?

Sorry about the rant, but I really need advice :)

M1530 is a great machine if you get a good screen. Looks like your resolution screen has a good chance of being a good one according to the polls on this site.

I returned mine, but while I had it it was pretty nice (except for the screen). I only tried World of Warcraft on it, but it ran on all high settings smoothly.

Hi mate, I live in Wales and cant understand why yours is taking so long to build ? I ordered a M1530 on 25/1 and had it delivered on the 29/1 ? Have you spoken to Dell regarding the delay ? Anyway, i returned mine as the screen was downright awful, but that was a Samsung 1650 x 1050, you may be luckier with the 1400 x 900 as you have a better chance of getting an LG according to the polls on this forum ? Personally I have a PS3 to play games but from what I have seen on YouTube of the M1530 playing games it certainly seems to have no problems playing the likes of Call of Duty 4 and Bioshock. It will even play Crysis on medium to low settings. To be honest tho' if I were looking for a laptop which will play the latest games in a year or two's time then maybe you should look at the M1730 if ur budget will allow ?

    Thanks for the replies guys.

I spoke to Dell, and they told me that they were waiting on a part coming in. Period. No explaination as to which part and why it was taking so long.

I got a pretty good deal on the 1530, with a 10% coupon and an EPP discount. I find it morally wrong to pay £1000+ for a laptop :p

I suppose I could look into overclocking if I needed a performance boost?
