I just did a reformat of my harddrive on the M170 and whenever i try to install the nvidia Video driver, after i extract it and start the installer, it comes up with an error that says " The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit." Then the display drivers InstallShield Wizard closes. if anyone knows anything that might help me please tell me. im willing to try anything. Also i know that all the drivers have not been installed although i have tried to do all of them becuase the standby option is not available for the computer and if i run Media Center it sayst that "Your video card or dirvers are not compatible with Media Center."
just as a side note everything worked perfectly before i did the wipe.
Thanks for any help.

where are you getting the drivers from? the nvidia problem sounds like you have the wrong video drivers and the standby problem is because you haven't installed all of your drivers.

im getting the drivers strait from the dell drivers Cd. the one that came with the laptop. i also tried installing the latest driver from Nvidia, off the website. those came up with the same error. is there anywhere that has a list of the drivers that should be installed?
-
check out the reformat sticky (link in my sig), i have a list of all the mandatory drivers that needs to be installed.
I can't get Dell's webpage to pull up at the moment, so i can't give you a direct link. -
Consider downloading the latest drivers from Dell's Drivers and Downloads page and installing those instead.
If this does not work, install the latest version of DirectX, then install the drivers. -
I have tried to put the Nvidia driver on their from the site and it comes up with the same error. does anyone know of something that must be installed first before the nvidia driver will work?
I just got the 7800GTX driver to work, i guess it was trying to dot the 6800 which was not working
im still dont have the standby option which assume means that there are still some drivers missing -
Standby does not have anything to do with your drivers. It is a direct component of XP. If you haven't already, update XP. That should fix the problem.

well it worked i got what seems to be all the drivers on there. thanks so much for all your help. the standby option became available after the video driver was installed i have no clue why. thanks so much it is so relieving to have this taken care of.

LOL, okay that is strange. Normally, XP needs to be updated for the standby to work.
Glad that you got it fixed.
Having trouble with putting the drivers back on
