It's 48 hours from my ESD, and I'm still in Build. Ordered 5/12, ESD 5/28, EDD 5/29. This is the 15th day of Build Status. I don't think they're gonna make it.
For those currently waiting (ordered, but not yet received), time to check in...
When did you order?
What is your ESD?
What is your current status?
What battery did you order?
Misery loves company. Share your misery with me.
-
-
Edit: NVM, now i'm getting somewhere
-
Order Processing takes about one business day, meaning since you replaced it on Friday, it won't become in production till Tuesday because of Memorial Day monday. Orders are processed on business days Monday through Friday, but Building and Boxing take place over weekends as well.
-
Apparently not in Canada it doesn't, I just managed to get ahold of the sales representative who's "handling" the order and he said it's gone into production and I should be able to see that status update in an hour... we'll see.
-
When did you order?
05-11-08
What is your ESD?
05-27-08 (tomorrow)
What is your current status?
In Production - Build
What battery did you order?
6-cell -
My ESD is in less than 24 hours. They are definitely not going to make it.
-
Regardless of your location once an order has been entered into the Dell machinery it will get processed. Holidays are local while Dell is global. There's no Memorial Day in Malaysia...
I've seen one M1530 get ordered on a Friday, went into Production that same day and was shipped the following monday afternoon... That was in February when it was perhaps more quiet. -

got this email today...
This is in regards to your order status request handled by me on
05-18-2008.
I see that the order has been delayed because of the 6-Cell Battery on
the order.
For your satisfaction, I have submitted a request to get the order
expedited and also upgraded the shipping method on the order from 3-5
business days to next day air.
I have taken a personal ownership of this issue and would keep you
posted on the status at regular intervals. -
Isn't that what they say to everyone to get them off the bullhorn?
-
true but funny thing is i only emailed them once, a week ago. at least they are keeping me in the loop as much as they can i guess. Sucks though i really needed my lappy by june 1st. Going to New York and would have been nice to have it
-
Well, that pretty much seals the deal. I ordered the same battery on the same date with the same ESD. Have they provided you with a new ESD yet?
I'm tempted to cancel 1st thing tomorrow morning and get on the horn to GenTechPC. They can have the Asus to me by Friday, easily. -
nope still the same, just called status line. Build..im gonna have a stroke when/if that biatch says something different
-
How long does an order usually stay in Pre Production?
-
I think my order skipped that entirely. It went from Processing Order to In Production - Build overnight.
-
dont know, mine went straight to production, i used my dell acct maybe they are verifying funds at this stage, shouldnt be long
-
Yeah. I know where my notebook is. In the trash.
lol.
-
Like I said, one business day. You should see it go in Production on Tuesday.
-
Last week one day I nearly stroked out myself when she told me that my order had been placed in the hands of the carrier! Then she proceeded to say something like..."the ship date was April 16, 2005..." or something. Looked at my cell and saw that I'd mistyped the order number.
Since then I've been more careful, and she's been a one-trick pony.
"...This order is In Production, and is currently in the Build stage. This order is In Production, and is currently in the Build stage. I got an idea to threaten to cancel your order if the status does not change to testing or boxing by Wednesday and talk about how they will be losing a loyal customer, how you have done research on ASUS m50 and you will NEVER buy from dell again and post as much negative advertising over the web.
Maybe they'll buy it. -
Order Date: 4/26
ESD: 5/27
Current Status: Production - Testing Stage
Battery: 6-Cell
If I'm lucky, I'll get mine this Friday
-
What's wrong with waiting a few extra days to get the better notebook that you will be using for years? Have a little patience man.
-
I concur. You've waiting much too long to simply cancel and go with a second rate ASUS. You'd just be admitting defeat. If the order status doesn't update at all this upcoming week... then I'd say that would be gay.
-
Just called Dell. They hung up on me after I tried to make my case to them that it is impossible to have it shipped out by tomorrow.
-
yeah just a little longer fountain, just a little longer. I doubt we will meet our ESD but im thinking 1st week in June
-
Order Date: 5/16/2008
Shipping Method: 3-5 days
Est. Ship Date: 6/3/2008 (My anniversary; it would be a gift if it shipped on or before this date; not likely though.....)
Est. Delivery Date: 6/6 - 6/10/2008
When I placed my order, I had no idea there were so many people wondering when and if their 1530s would ship or not. It's making me wish I'd ordered a different unit or went with a different company. -
It really varies. Some are getting their units earlier such as in my case, 3 weeks earlier than ESD, some are getting theirs late even though they ordered days before me. It really varies. For me, no company is greater than Dell. If you think about why there are such things as delays and stuff, its obvious to know that it is a VERY popular notebook. I'd say its well worth the wait. Even if mine had been delayed, sure I would be ticked a bit about waiting longer, but I knew once I had the unit it my hands, all would be forgiven.
-
Well that's because you already pretty much have the laptop in your hands. We who do not and who see no light at the end of the tunnel don't view it with such optimism. We know we will be put on delay, but hopefully it will arrive to use eventually.
-
Anyone else here waiting for their xps 1530 Product RED? A lot of people think the color is ugly, but I went with it because I thought it looked pretty sweet.
-
Heh. Well I'll certainly call them ans ask for a legitimate ESD, and also ask for some sort of compensation. I've already paid for overnight shipping, so they can't entice me with that. I'll see what they have to say.
It really comes down to what sort of status they can give me about when I can expect it to ship. I refuse to just sit around and wait for some indefinite period of time. I'm not THAT enamored of the M1530. If they can give me a legitimate and believable status, we'll see. If they just say, "Your new ESD is June 12, but your order may ship earlier..." then I won't just threaten to cancel. I will cancel.
I wouldn't cancel just to spite them somehow...like Dell really cares if I cancel my order. I imagine they'll survive it. I just want a freakin' laptop, and if Dell can't pony one up, there are plenty of other vendors who will. -
Order Date: 5/9
ESD: 5/27
Current Status: Production - B**ld stage
Battery: 6-Cell
@Forte, I guess the demand for 6 cell batteries is much greater than for 9-cell ones, so that would explain the delay with other parts being more or less the same.
I have also been looking at the said Asus, but even though the hardware seems more or less on the same lines, m1530 is much superior design-wise. -
I'm not sure the M1530 is better. In what way is it better? It has a sleeker form factor, but that's not the end all of a notebook. If anything, I'd feel safer going with the Asus. If that long thread about the crappy Samsung screens doesn't give you pause, then I dunno.
Second rate Asus?
Asus M50Sv-A1
15.4" WXGA+ (1440x900)
Penryn T9300 2.5Ghz
GeForce 9500M GS 512MB
3GB
250GB
Intel 4965 WiFi-N
HDMI
Bluetooth V2.0+EDR
4xUSB + eSATA
Out the door for $1299.
It's a very nice notebook. Not sure why you'd say it was second rate. -
You guys keep mentioning build stage. My status just says "In production", does that mean it's not even in the build stage yet??
-
"In Production" is kind of a catch all for everything between "you ordered it" and "we shipped it."
For a better status, call the automated status line at 1-800-433-9014 and key in your order number. -
Good specs and price, but I have to say the 1530 looks a lot nicer.
-
you have to call the order status line to find out what stage your in 800-433-9014
-
Just got off of the status line.
Order 5/9
CPU t8300
Midnight Blue
6 cell battery
Bluetooth
1680x1050
ESD 5/27
currently in the "Boxing Stage". Any idea on how long that takes? -
well, i responded to my previous dell email and asked the status and whether or not it wil meet the ESD..here is what i got back
I see that the order is still in the production stage. Kindly note that
we do not have an updated ship date on the order.
I would keep you posted once the information is updated.
pretty much nothing... -
Seems like most people report that "Boxing" takes about three days. But YMMV.
-
Lets see, WXGA+ on ASUS isn't LED backlit...
ASUS has 9500M GS 512MB, whats that? DDR2? Yeah. Thats right. 8600 GT is DDR 3. So they are equal. 9500GS is a renamed version of the 8600GT after all.
Designwise, ASUS is way inferior compared to the M1530.
Weightwise, M1530 is 6 lbs rounded up from 5.9. Asus M50Sv-A1... 6.5 pounds rounded up form 6.4. Oh yes, with LED display, the M1530 shaves off another 100 grams. Once again slaughtering the ASUS.
Battery life: 2 hours 15 mins on power saving mode for asus, versus 2 hours 30 mins without power saving mode or M1530. Thats not even factoring in the LED backlit display for the M1530.
Omg, it has 4 USB ports vs the M1530 having 3. Big whoop.
Oh by the way, the M1530 is freshly built for you instead of an ASUS that has already been pre-built sitting in a box for many months.
Yes, the ASUS is not a bad notebook, but compared to the M1530, its second rate. (Pardon my tone, but I am just giving you reasons why you should wait for the popular M1530 rather than settle for the non-popular ASUS, well, there you go.) -
When did you order?
05-13-08
What is your ESD?
05-29-08
What is your current status?
In Production - Build
What battery did you order?
6-cell
I have read all the reviews of the entire world wide web, going nuts... -
Well, since I've recently (read: minutes ago) entered Testing, it's a moot point.
But seriously, in no way would I call the M50sv-a1 second rate. It's a really nice notebook. I admit that it doesn't have the "I look cool in Starbuck's" style to it, but it's hardly a Lenovo either. I would have been happy with either.
-
Sweet man! You entered testing, congrats!
-
Congrats! So now you definitely won't go for the Asus!
-
Nope. Not now. Unless of course the XPS lets me down in some way that Dell can't rectify. The whole Samsung screen issue has me a bit worried.
-
According to one of the polls regarding whether they got an LG or a Samsung screen, about 33 voted Samsung and 60 voted LG. It'll be interesting. The poll was started mid-April, most likely they have fixed things up by now hopefully.
-
I've been hoping that. But the end of that long thread still had guys getting new Samsung screens in the last couple of weeks. Now to be honest, I'm having a hard time telling if the screens are actually that bad, or if guys are now just so conditioned by the whole thing that if they get a Samsung screen they freak out and start demanding replacements.
I almost wish I'd never heard anything about it. If I get a Samsung, it might seem OK to me, but I might always wonder if everyone else had a much better screen than I do. Hope I get lucky with an LG. -
That's cause LG is Life's Good...lol.
-
its My freaking Birthday today i should have got it today dammit!!
-
Your not alone, I said the exact same thing a week ago. At least they managed to arrange for it to be delivered a week after my b-day though.
-
It was my birthday last week Wednesday. Too bad it is still stuck in build even it is the day before it is due.
Head Count! It's Monday morning. Do you know where YOUR notebook is?
