My Specs [email protected](2CPUs), 1 gig of ram, Geforce Go 7900 256mb

whenever I'm just surfing the internet my GPU temp is at about 70 degrees Celcius. Is that how it is for everyone. If I play games like CSS my fans kick in and get the temps down to about 60 or 61 sometimes even lower. But I still dont think that 7900 should be so hot just surfing the internet it even idles at that temp. I use the Nvidia Control Panel to look at my temp for my GPU. How are other E1705 users temps like? Any help would be appreciated.

So you dont use any type of cooling to have yours idle at that temp? I have i8kfangui but I dont really want to use it. I rather have the bios decide when to use it. I dont want to wear out my fans.

You will not wear out your fans. The BIOS does a horrible job controlling when the fans turn on. Trust me, that software is your best bet to keeping your notebook cool.

Oh yeah, I fogot to mention that you can get a notebook cooler. It will help keep your notebook's temp's at decent ranges. If you go towards that path then get this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834999336

One more question. Is the temp that the nvidia control panel and the I8kfangui supposed to be different? If not which is wrong? The fangui has the temp at 8 degrees lower.

You have to offset the temp on the I8kfanGUI by 8 degrees.

yeah, you need +8 offset in I8kfanGUI. I8kfanGUI is also your best bet for fan management. Setup a temperature policy to your liking and enjoy ;) only turn on GPU fan (fan2 if I'm not mistaken) when video card gets hot and CPU fan (fan1?) when CPU gets hot.

GeForce 7900GS does idle at very high temperatures (or seems to need a constant airflow to maintain a low temperature), so you don't have a problem. The good thing is that it actually doesn't run any hotter as you stress it.

So is the GPU the only one that I need to offset? All the other temps are reading right?

The video card probably gets very little cooling with idle - the notebook is quiet, but at the cost of increased heat. When you play games, the fans are running at high speeds and the large amounts of air going across the video card keep it cool.

that's right, only GPU needs to be offset (at least as far as I know)

Chaz, btw (at least for me) the fans VERY rarely turn on high/fast. Usually low/slow mode does the job, which was pretty surprising to me at first.

get a Targus Podium. It'll cooldown your laptop few degrees more.

Yea I think I will get a cooling pad. With I8Kfangui I probably dont need it but it wont hurt. I8Kfangui really helps when I sit my laptop on my lap. But for wen I'm gaming and thats usually on a desk a cooling pad would be good.

use both. seriously....fans are easier to replace than crapped out circuit boards.

Hey WOoZie, if you get notebook cooler make sure you get the one I listed. Many have turned to me asking for a good notebook cooler and trust me, it does the job well (especially on the E1705 :) ).

As I was reading I figured out it is better to simply replace the fans if they go out than the motherboard.

I have a Nvidia 7800 which gets hotter, but I was afriad to change speeds of the fans because they'll wear out faster. However after the comments I read, I think its better to run the fans longer, despite overworking them, but I can simply replace them for a couple of bucks in a year or two.

This leads me to, what temptures should I set them to?
