One of my laptops has 533 MHZ dual channel ram

    Memory Type DDR2
    Memory Size 2048 MBytes
    Memory Frequency 266.0 MHz (5:8)
    CAS# 4.0
    RAS# to CAS# 4
    RAS# Precharge 4
    Cycle Time (tRAS) 12
    Bank Cycle Time (tRC) 16

It reports the frequancy as only 266mhz under CPU-Z ... is this because its dual channel??? 266 = almost exactly half of 533 Is this normal???

It has 2x1gb sticks in it.

    That is right... 266x2 = ~533...

    Yes. Double Data Rate ram. 266 x 2 = 533.

Yeh , sorry , i searched it a few secconds ago , So what if this ram wasnt dual channel , does that mean it would only operate at 266mhz

    No...

DDR = Double Data Rate (as posted above)
Dual Channel = Combining the two RAM chips to speed up memory access (effectively doubling the speed to the chipset)

I think you mean "If this chip wasn't DDR"

Though there isn't any 266Mhz SDR RAM I don't think... Though I can't rem. what speeds the now defunct RDRAM operated at...

Also, DDR basically means doing work on the rising and falling of the clock cycle where as single data rate (SDR) only does work on the rising of the clock cycle. That is why DDR is rated as Clock x 2...
