Hi, I have a dell e1705 with windows xp pro, the bios version is 006; last week I tried to replace my 7900gs to Quadro FX 2500m graphic card.
I took out some small plastic pieces from the left up side of my down case to make the 2500m fit into the place perfectly; however it seems not working after I boot up. it shows a lot pixels in the screen and pop out blue screen before into the xp system, I also tried a 1500m and get the same result.
Anyone tried this before? does it work? Help!!!

I have no input in this matter whatsoever... I'm just here to ask WHY?
-
because my 7900gs would fail some applications when I run MAYA7.
-
Does the blue screen bring up an error code of any sort. Also, I know this sounds stupid, but have you uninstalled the previous drivers, then replaced the card and then installed the newer drivers.

you can only use cards that are available options for your system, that would be the x1400,the 7800 and 7900gs, the bios doesnt support quadros

thank you for reply.
no, I didn't uninstalled the previous driver. I replaced the card first, then installed the new driver by the only chance I can log in to the XP.
the blue screen shows: NMI: Parity check / Memory Parity Error
by the way, my memory is 2gb 533 mhz from dell, and these large pixels are happen and keeping flash from the very begining when see thr Dell logo. -

your notebook doesnt support the card, you will need bios support for it, and unless you can happen to find a hacked bios,or hack it yourself, your SOL

How come i saw on NotebookForums there is a guy who able to put the 1500M card in? and he's for sale that laptop. Either with 7900GTX or quaddro?? You might want to ask that guy how to make the quadro works with E1705.

I've read about the gtx, you cant run it to its full potential on the 1705,and it runs much hotter so I dont really see a point in it,for the cost of the card you can get a decent laptop. I havent heard of running a quadro, it would require a bios that supports it, someone may have created one,or it might be one of those "rare" untruths that occasionally pop out on the ever so honest and trust worthy internet, like the kid that bought a mobility x1600 "chip" at best buy and soldered it in just a quick question, the 7900s havent been out long enough to be out of warranty, have they? Have you tried getting it replaced?

thanks for replies.
my 7900gs works fine if don't run MAYA7 for few certain applications. if hacking bios is the only way to go, I may just give up... -
according to both Nvidia - the 7900GS should have OpenGL:
http://www.nvidia.com/page/go_7800gtx_features.html
which meets the min. requirements that Maya requires

Perhaps you have other programs running that maybe interfering with Maya? Perhaps updating your current video driver would help. -

your best bet would be to save up and buy a workstation class machine, notebooks arent like desktops, you cant just pop in/out parts at will, though it would be nice if you could. You could always sell your 9400 and look into a precision or lattitude, those come with quadros or fire gl's. I've also read about mods to the cards, turning the consumer class card into a workstaion cards, theyve been doing that ever since the GF2 era, though I've never read anything about doing such with notebook cards
Help!!! Can Dell 9400 inspiron upgrade with quadro FX workstation card?
