Long story short. (I lost the long story earlier, message didn't go)
Opened box, turned on unit. Screen covered in tiny horizontal lines. Running the mouse over the texts make more tiny lines. Lots of visual noise.
Did 70 minutes with Dell Tech support. Got to the point where he said, format and clean install or send the computer back.
I did the clean format and install, everything was fine but the resolution was 1600x1200 ( I have a WUXGA) so I installed the ATI driver on the backup disk. This screwed everything up again.
Ideas? My next step is probably to reformat, clean install, and download new drivers from the net somewhere (ATI or Dell).
After that it's send it back.
Hate to do that.
Any help you can give me would certainly be appreciated.
Thanks,
Fionan

You could have a bad video card. I went through three in my 8200.

I would definitely send it back and not waste your time messing with this particular machine anymore. What a pain, this is why Dell gets a bad rap sometimes.

Got on the Phone with Dell, and reasonably painlessly, they're sending me a new computer. It should arrive in a few days. Then I'll send this one back.
Their Quality Assurance may be not worth much, but they get high marks from me for Customer Service.
