Hi... I had my 1505 replaced by a 1520 by Dell. I was told that the 1505's hard drive would work on the 1520, but I keep getting an error saying "XLDR ATA Error." Is there any way I can use it? I have a lot of important files on it... :(

Specs on the hard drive -
    Hitachi Travelstar
    SATA 80 GB 7200rpm

    Thanks...

edit - The 1520 came with a hard drive... so, I have an old hard drive from the 1505, and a new one from the 1520.

    edit 2 --

Sorry to bump this, but I just wanted to update.

I bought a case and now I'm waiting for it. My hard drive will be counted as a storage device, right?

One more question -- How would I erase and install the OS on my old hard drive? I don't have the 1505 anymore.

    Hoping for some replies... thanks

You'll need to save those important files by copying them elsewhere. You need to reinstall the OS.

you can not just plop a hard drive from one machine to another and think you could use it fine and dandy. what about drivers etc. the laptops are different configurations of hardware so the software would be too, so you will most likely have to erase everything and reinstall your operating system.

if i were you, i would drop it into an usb external hard drive case (10 bucks) and you can copy the files over to your new laptop. btw, i wouldnt trust "important" files only to be saved to the hard drive of one laptop. They do die! jump drives are good and cheap now a day...

    Thanks.

If it's not a bother, could someone guide me to the external hard drive case that would be best/fit with my hard drive? http://www.geeks.com/products.asp?cat=HDD

Thanks again. I'm not very computer-savvy.

edit - Is the external case all that I need to transfer my files? I'm going to buy a jump drive as well

    edit --

I was about to post the link you posted...

But then I found this --
    http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=HD3-SU2B&cat=HDD

I'm sure this one is the best option. It supports Vista and up to 200gb

By the way, I would really, really appreciate an answer to my problem. I've asked this on other forums and Googled it, but no luck. :( Anyone, help!
